MOSAID Adds Patents to Complaint Against Micron,Powerchip, and ProMOS
OTTAWA, Ontario - August 31, 2006 - MOSAID Technologies Incorporated (TSX:MSD) today announced that it has filed an amended complaint asserting two additional patents to its patent infringement claims against Micron Technology, Inc., Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation and ProMOS Technologies. Filed in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, the complaint now alleges infringement of 11 of MOSAID's U.S. patents.
The two additional patents - U.S. Patent Nos. 5,406,523 and 6,236,581 - are being asserted against the Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) products of all three defendants. In addition, patent 6,236,581 is also being asserted against Micron's Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor products.
"We believe the addition of these patents strengthens our patent infringement case against all three defendants," said George Cwynar, President and Chief Executive Officer, MOSAID. "Furthermore, in relation to Micron, we are broadening the infringement coverage to a significant line of additional Micron products."
According to Micron's publicly filed documents, CMOS image sensors are the company's second largest and fastest growing product line. CMOS image sensors are semiconductor devices that capture and process images into pictures or video for a variety of consumer and industrial applications including mobile hand-held devices and digital cameras.
