Montage LZ Technologies Selects Rambus CryptoMedia Core to Secure Set-Top Box Chips
Embedded root of trust provides smart-card level security to protect digital content
SUNNYVALE, CA – November 1, 2018 – Today, Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ: RMBS) announced that its CryptoMedia core has been selected for integration into Montage LZ Technologies (Montage LZ) set-top box (STB) chips. The advanced security core provides smart-card level security inside the chipset, eliminating the need for a separate smart card and saving operators cost without compromising security. Through its collaboration with Rambus, operators using Montage LZ chips will be able to use the CryptoMedia hardware root-of-trust to ensure the secure distribution of premium content to their subscribers.
The CryptoMedia core can be used with any Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) compliant conditional access system (CAS) and with any digital rights management (DRM) system for over-the-top (OTT) video-streaming applications.
“Demand for cost-effective and robust content protection solutions has become increasingly important to our customers and ensuring the security of set-top boxes is fundamental to our offering,” said Derek Chang, VP of Engineering at Montage LZ. “The integration of the Rambus CryptoMedia core will enable us to provide our customers with state-of-the-art solutions for set-top boxes and provide secure access to premium content.”
“As a pioneer in embedded security, we combined the design of our robust hardware root-of-trust with an emphasis on ecosystem enablement to offer the strongest security options to our customers,” said Dr. Martin Scott, SVP/GM of Cryptography and CTO, Rambus. “By selecting our CryptoMedia Content Protection core, Montage will enable another layer of protection in the set-top-box chipset with flexible hardware security that works with any CAS or DRM system.”
