MIPS Technologies Appoints Loudcloud CEO, Co-Founder Ben Horowitz To Its Board of Directors
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 2001--MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:MIPS - news; Nasdaq:MIPSB - news), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer and network applications, today announced that Internet innovator Ben Horowitz has been appointed to fill a newly created seat representing Class B common stockholders on the MIPS Technologies board of directors. Horowitz will fill a Class II director seat which will expire at the annual meeting of stockholders in 2003 and which increases the number of board members to six.
Horowitz, who previously held senior management positions at America Online and Netscape Communications, is currently chief executive officer of Loudcloud, which he co-founded in 1999 with Netscape co-founder Marc Andreessen, among others. Loudcloud, a leading managed services provider, offers companies such as USA Today, Ford Motor Co. and News Corp. a cost-effective way to off-load the day-to-day management of their global Internet operations.

Previously, Horowitz was vice president and general manager of AOL's E-commerce Platform division, where he oversaw development of the company's flagship Shop@AOL service, which is today the largest shopping destination on the Internet. From 1995 to 1999, Horowitz ran several product divisions at Netscape, including the Customer Relations Applications group and the widely acclaimed Directory and Security product line. Prior to joining Netscape, he worked at Lotus Development Corp., where he held various senior marketing positions. Horowitz holds a master's degree in computer science from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a bachelor of science degree from Columbia University.
