MIPS Technologies, Intrinsix Alliance Offers SoC Design Services for MIPS-Based[tm] Solutions
Services for MIPS-Based[tm] Solutions
Intrinsix to Provide IP Integration and Other Engineering
Services, Enabling Customers of MIPS Cores to Lower
Development Costs and Speed Time to Market
BOSTON, Embedded Systems Conference, September 4, 2001 - Embedded design engineers using MIPS® processor cores to develop system-on-chip (SoC) solutions now have access to the design expertise of Intrinsix Corp., according to an agreement announced today by Intrinsix and MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS, MIPSB).
The design services offered by Intrinsix, the largest independent electronics product design services company, complement MIPS Technologies' own strategic services capability. Among the benefits to the semiconductor manufacturers and system OEMs that license MIPS products and choose to outsource product development are lower development costs and faster time to market.
Intrinsix, with expertise in networking, wireless communication and digital media applications, will offer a full range of product design services, from conceptualization to manufacture, for customers of the MIPS32[tm] 4K[tm] family of 32-bit cores and MIPS64[tm] 5K[tm] family of 64-bit cores. Services offered by Intrinsix to MIPS Licensees, with appropriate rights, include front-end design, integration, synthesis, design-for-test, timing analysis, floor planning and embedded software.
"Design outsourcing is very appealing to many manufacturers because it addresses several critical concerns in the semiconductor industry, not the least of which is the increasing complexity of processor architectures and the frenzied pace at which networking, wireless and digital media are converging," said Brian Kelley, director of embedded systems at Intrinsix. "Our services allow them to preserve their engineering resources, get to market as fast as possible, and keep costs down. We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with MIPS customers and help them deliver highly integrated systems within their market window of opportunity."
"One of the best ways we can maximize value for our customers is to help them get the most out of their MIPS processor cores, and one of the ways we do that is by teaming up with design services companies like Intrinsix," said James Mac Hale, director of semiconductor licensee marketing at MIPS Technologies. "Intrinsix offers a high level of SoC expertise and a proven track record for helping customers realize significant productivity and time-to-market benefits."
About Intrinsix
Intrinsix Corp. is the largest independent Electronic Product Design Outsourcing company. Our highly experienced engineers architect, design and verify complex electronic systems. These systems are most often System on Chip (SoC) designs in networking, wireless and digital media applications. As a result of the demanding feature and time-to-market characteristics of these applications, Intrinsix rapidly delivers its SoC hardware and deeply embedded software to customers by using state of the art co-design and co-verification techniques. Intrinsix provides comprehensive ASIC and SoC; architecting, design, simulation, synthesis, verification and test services to leading electronics companies that have devices produced by semiconductor vendors such as Texas Instruments, IBM, Lucent, LSI, Philips/VLSI, Infineon, Toshiba, NEC, Fujitsu and Samsung among others.
