LSI Logic offers integrated ADSL, Voice Over IP and Ethernet In HomeBASE Gateway design
- Comprehensive gateway design reduces time-to-market with LSI Logic HomeBASE ADSL solution, ZSP DSP silicon and field-tested software
- Modular and scalable design supports flexibility of Voice over IP or ATM
- New revenue opportunities from voice services for Internet service providers
Milpitas, Calif., June 30, 2003 - With its strong standard product line, broad portfolio of CoreWare® intellectual property and experience in developing complex system-on-a-chip designs, LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today introduced a gateway design, the HomeBASE™ VoIP/ADSL Gateway, that combines key voice and data technologies for the development of next-generation ADSL gateway solutions. Bringing together the company's popular HomeBASE ADSL modem chipset and LSI403LP open architecture ZSP® digital signal processor (DSP), the gateway offers manufacturers of customer premises equipment (CPE) a cost-effective and flexible package with complete hardware and Voice over Packet (VoP) application software that supports both Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and ATM (VoATM) designs.
"The rapid growth of the ADSL market combined with the maturity of VoIP deployments worldwide present LSI Logic with a significant opportunity for extending its leadership in the development of home gateway products," said Jaclynn Bumback, research analyst within the Enterprise and Residential Communications group of In-Stat/MDR. "By combining its proven HomeBASE ADSL chipset with its popular ZSP open-architecture DSP, LSI Logic is providing OEMs a cost and time-to-market advantage for an exciting new generation of voice-enabled broadband devices."
The VoIP/ADSL Gateway provides manufacturers of high data rate systems with voice capabilities, a pre-integrated product ensuring minimal time-to-market. In addition to the hardware, the gateway includes software such as router, NAT (Network Address Translation) and Firewall based on royalty-free Linux operating system. A comprehensive VoIP software suite is also included with multiple voice codecs including G.711, G.723.1, G.726, G.728 and G.729 and supporting signaling protocols such as SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and MGCP (Media Gateway Control Protocol).
Featuring complete interoperability with industry-leading DSLAMs, the LSI Logic gateway solution uses SpeedREACH™ transport technology and a network processor for superior data throughput and software performance. The rate/reach performance exceeds TR-048 requirements enabling telecommunication companies to expand their DSL coverage area. The chipset is fully compliant and interoperable with industry standards T1.413, G.992.1 (G.dmt), and G.992.2 (G.lite) and supports Annex A and Annex B. The scalable architecture of the LSI Logic ZSP DSP gives manufacturers the flexibility to easily expand the number of voice channels supported by the gateway.
"The VoIP gateway design enables our customers to develop voice-enabled integrated access devices and bring them to market with minimal effort," said Stephen Ellwood, marketing director of the DSL Product Business Unit, LSI Logic. "By overlaying voice on a broadband access network using DSL as the transport, these new devices enable Internet service providers to offer consumers low-cost, multi-port voice services in addition to data services over a single copper wire connection."
In addition to DSL, LSI Logic offers a wide range of home networking technology including Ethernet, USB, 802.11 and Wireless LAN technologies. These technologies, combined with LSI Logic's strong CoreWare portfolio, digital rights management capabilities, and MPEG-based and proprietary compression technologies, uniquely equip LSI Logic to deliver highly integrated silicon solutions to address the delivery and distribution of voice, video and data. The breadth and flexibility of LSI Logic's offerings facilitates product differentiation for both carriers and service providers.
