MegaChips Licenses Low-Power IP Core from MIPS Technologies for Single-Chip LSI Solutions
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Sept. 1, 2009
-- MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:MIPS - News), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, today announced that Japan's MegaChips Corporation, a global leader in customizable system LSIs, selected the MIPS32(r) 4KEc(r) processor core for next-generation digital consumer SoCs. MegaChips' target markets include digital photography, HDTV, portable media, HD security monitors and gaming.
"The economic downturn hasn't stifled consumer demand for devices that combine sophisticated features with superior performance, but low cost is more important than ever. With this in mind, we provide our customers with the highly-differentiated, cost-effective solutions they need to remain competitive," said Tetsuo Hikawa, officer and general manager, MegaChips Corporation. "With the high performance and power-efficiency of MIPS Technologies' 4KE core, we can deliver best-of-breed designs that exceed customer expectations and satisfy their bottom-line requirements."
"MegaChips' innovation and commitment to excellence have made it a leader among Japan's fabless semiconductor companies, and we are once again delighted to play a critical role in the development of a new generation of its LSI solutions," said Art Swift, vice president of marketing at MIPS Technologies. "MIPS enjoys a strong presence in Japan, and we look forward to expanding our considerable foothold in consumer and communications applications."
The configurable MIPS32 4KE(r) family provides enhanced capabilities and features such as code compression, multiple sets of 32-bit registers, larger write-back cache memories and extensive clock gating. 4KE cores give SoC designers flexibility to optimize their applications by increasing performance while reducing die size and power consumption and, ultimately, total system cost.
