Configurable Advanced Touch-Screen LCD Video Evaluation Platform Now Available for Lattice FPGA Families

Flexible Image Processing Platform Includes Board, Camera, Display and Intellectual Property

HILLSBORO, OR -- Aug 31, 2009

-- Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC) today announced the release of LCD-Pro, an advanced FPGA-based LCD video imaging and control solutions platform. Developed by Lattice partner Exor International, the LCD-Pro evaluation platform is based on the low-cost LatticeECP2(TM) and LatticeXP2(TM) FPGA devices, and the UltiLogic family of graphics Intellectual Property (IP) Cores from Exor International. The LCD-Pro platform addresses a wide range of active matrix TFT displays from 2 inches to 23 inches, and enables rapid evaluation of advanced LCD video and touch-screen controller IP designed to accelerate time-to-market for manufacturers developing LCD video display and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) applications in automotive, consumer, white goods, building automation and industrial control markets.

Designed to provide comprehensive graphic processing functionality, the LCD-Pro platform incorporates a 2D graphics accelerator and can handle picture scaling and the cropping of real-time video. An I2C interface facilitates "plug-and-play" LCD connectivity while a backlight inverter provides ON/OFF and dimming control.

"We are pleased to work with our partner, Exor International, and excited to provide this evaluation platform for the display market to our customers who are developing advanced video and HMI applications using touch-screen LCD displays," said Sean Riley, Lattice Corporate Vice President and General Manager of High Density Solutions. "Lattice is committed to providing a comprehensive silicon ecosystem that includes evaluation kits, reference designs, software tools and IP cores so our customers can accelerate their time to market."

LatticeECP2, LatticeXP2 FPGAs Chosen for LCD-Pro Evaluation Platform

LCD-Pro is a configurable, advanced, touch-screen video evaluation platform that can accommodate LatticeECP2 SRAM FPGAs and LatticeXP2 non-volatile FPGAs. The LatticeECP2 FPGA family has been optimized to deliver high performance features in an economical FPGA fabric, and includes devices ranging from 12K to 50K Look-Up Tables (LUTs) in package sizes up to 484BGA. The devices include LUT-based logic, distributed and embedded memory, Phase Locked Loops (PLLs), Delay Locked Loops (DLLs), pre-engineered source synchronous I/O support, enhanced sysDSP(TM) blocks and advanced configuration support.

The LatticeXP2 family combines a LUT-based FPGA fabric with Flash non-volatile cells in Lattice's flexiFLASH(TM) architecture. The flexiFLASH approach provides benefits such as instant-on operation, a small footprint, on-chip storage with FlashBAK(TM) embedded block memories, Serial TAG memory and the highest design security. LatticeXP2 devices also support live updates with Lattice's unique TransFR(TM) technology, 128-bit AES design encryption and dual-boot technologies. The family includes five devices ranging between 5K and 40K LUTs in a wide variety of packages.

"We chose to use Lattice FPGAs in the LCD-Pro evaluation platform because they offer the optimum combination of a low-cost fabric and high performance features," said Pete Burgess, President, Exor International. "Both the SRAM ECP2 and non-volatile XP2 devices are ideally suited for video and HMI applications."

About the LCD-Pro Evaluation Platform

The LCD-Pro evaluation platform offers four-wire analog resistive touch-screen inputs and the overall system capabilities can be expanded through the addition of SRAM and Flash memory. A high-speed USB 2.0 interface operating at 480Mbps ensures the rapid transfer of graphics images as well as speeding system programming. The kit comes complete with an included 7" active matrix TFT display with touch-screen capability, video camera, USB cable, power supply and CD-ROM. In addition to the Lattice device, each evaluation platform features 64Mbyte of DDRAM video memory and a powerful 16bpp LCD video controller that can be configured for resolutions from QVGA to high definition in 4:3 and 16:9 formats, as well as a 16:10 format for the gaming industry. LCD-Pro supports composite video and analog VGA input and will accept real-time video input streams.
