Genesys Logic's USB 2.0 Hub Controller Passes USB-IF Certification
May 30, 2003 - Taipei - Genesys Logic, Inc., a leading domestic USB 2.0 IC design house, announces that its USB 2.0 hub controller (GL850) has passed the USB-IF (USB Implementers Forum) certification. It is the only USB 2.0 hub controller that passed the USB-IF certification in Taiwan.
As USB 2.0 hubs must ensure data transfer between systems and devices using USB 1.1 and USB 2.0, assurance of the compatibility between USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 will be exceptionally important, and the design is thus extremely complicated. Overcoming the technical difficulties, Genesys Logic successfully announced GL850 chipset, which makes the enterprise the only domestic designer and one of the few designers in the world that is qualified for USB 2.0 hub controller design. Moreover, the achievement marks the enterprise’s superior competitiveness in cost and technical support.
According to Genesys Logic, GL850 supports 4 downstream ports and uses 64-pin LQFP package to ensure full support for USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 specifications. Therefore, it is fully compatible (high-speed/full speed/low speed) with systems and devices connected to the USB interface of either specification. Moreover, GL850 is equipped with low power consumption, low temperature and overload protection functions to ensure optimal EMI/ESD processing. The self-power and bus-power auto-detect modes even allow users to save plug and pull of devices over and over again.
By following the high maturity and reliability tradition of USB1.1 hub controllers, GL850 is a competitive product for hub makers. Many clients have adopted GL850 to their stand-alone hubs, embedded, notebook duckings and MFP; for products using GL850 will pass any test and certification more easily.
