GDA Technologies, Inc. announces plans for Intel® IXP2800 reference design platform with Diagnostics and Embedded Linux.
San Jose, California - September 9, 2002 - GDA Technologies, Inc., a fast growing supplier of Electronic Design Services (EDS), today announced that it is developing an Intel® IXP2800 reference design platform with Diagnostics, Embedded Linux software and Microcode framework for key applications.
The reference design will enable early designing of systems and equipment based on the new family of high performance Intel network processors.GDA’s prior experience and expertise around IXP1200 based hardware design and micro-code development will help GDA’s customers to use this platform and develop new products around Intel IXP2800network processors .
The reference design will be initially be available on a PCI/PCIX form-factor cards. The design consists of Intel IXP2800 network processor subsystem with 32MB of Flash and 128MB of RDRAM. To provide network connectivity, one Gigabit port and a configurable OC3 or OC12 port will be designed into the board hardware. In addition for manageability, bring-up support and software development, one RS232 and one 10/100 Ethernet ports will also be available on the design package.
Intel's customers can also utilize the engineering design services offered by GDA in systems, boards, PCB layouts, and SOC development, ASICs FPGAs and IPs to customize this reference design for their specific applications. That way, the design package connects Intel’s customers to the best design resources for their specific engineering, software development and validation requirements.
Around this hardware design, GDA will offer its embedded software services for porting popular embedded operating systems. Initially, Embedded Linux operating system will be supported on this reference platform. GDA has mastered the programming techniques around several sophisticated chipsets and Framers. Leveraging its extensive embedded expertise, GDA has also created a valuable debug and diagnostics software tool. This tool provides a basic boot monitor along with extensive diagnostic routines and loop-back tests. This tool will allow customers to shorten debug and test cycle time, which is a significant portion of the product development cycle. GDA’s Diagnostics Software Tool will also be offered on the IXP2800 reference platform.
In addition, GDA will create a microcode development framework for key vertical applications around Gigabit Ethernet technology in Security and Storage area Networks, which will have a standard interface to popular embedded operating systems. Initial framework will provide capabilities to seamlessly transport data through the fast paths from one microengine to other or to the NPU external interface.
Intel's customers can utilize GDA’s extensive hardware, software and design validation expertise in Embedded, Networking and high-end consumer design challenges. GDA has designed several platforms around a variety of family of microprocessors and network processors for the last three years.
"GDA has been investing a lot of our design and embedded software talent around network processors in general and Intel IXP family of network processors in particular. We are fully committed to stay focused on the IXP family and are proud to announce the forthcoming availability of this reference platform from GDA. By banking on GDA’s extensive design experience and Intel’s customer reach and support, customers will greatly benefit from this platform," said Gopa Periyadan, Vice President of System and Software Design Services at GDA Technologies.
"GDA reference design platform and electronic design services for the IXP2800 network processor will provide equipment developers important options to help simplify and cut the cost of product development," said Doug Davis, general manager of the Intel Network Processor Division.
GDA has enabled a variety of designs for OEMs and System Integrators in Network Security Systems, Voice-over-IP platforms, Storage Area Networking systems, based Single board computers and several networking switching and routing market segment.
