Condor Engineering Introduces LabVIEW Real-Time Support for Popular CompactPCI MIL-STD-1553 Interface

Engineers familiar with National Instruments LabVIEW graphical development environment can now easily migrate applications to a dedicated, real-time environment

Santa Barbara, CA – January 22, 2004  - Condor Engineering, a leading provider of military and commercial avionics databus solutions, today announced that it has added National Instruments LabVIEW Real-Time™ support for its MIL-STD-1553 CompactPCI hardware on PXI and cPCI platforms. Design and test engineers who need high-performance, real-time 1553 databus data acquisition and control now have a powerful way to shorten development cycles of avionics applications.

Using the Condor cPCI-1553 interface for MIL-STD-1553 and LV-1553 software, engineers can rapidly develop and debug LabVIEW custom applications and virtual instruments on a desktop or laptop computer, and then migrate these applications to the NI LabVIEW Real-Time environment.

"Our previous commercial success with our popular LabVIEW interface for Condor's MIL-STD-1553 interfaces resulted in numerous customer requests for us to support NI's real-time version of LabVIEW," said Rick Schuh, V.P. Sales at Condor Engineering. "This new addition to Condor's line of MIL-STD-1553 solutions enables engineers to build on their existing LabVIEW expertise and rapidly prototype custom, LabVIEW Real-Time applications. We believe this will open up many opportunities for both Condor and National Instruments, and will provide a powerful tool for engineers to use during critical development and test phases."

Using the Condor LV-1553 software for LabVIEW Real-Time, engineers can rapidly build custom applications to monitor, filter, and time lag multiple 1553 channels of data in real time, as well as create custom displays and pass data to other applications. The LV-1553 product includes Virtual Instruments (VIs) that are used in the NI LabVIEW environment to provide graphical access to Condor's extensive MIL-STD-1553 Application Programming Interface (API). Users then create their own interactive VI interfaces to initialize and control the intelligent Condor cPCI-1553 hardware and its interaction with the MIL-STD-1553 databus.

LabVIEW examples are provided with LV-1553 that demonstrates the Application Programming Interface (API). Engineers can use these examples right out of the box, and are provided for board initialization, Bus Controller, Remote Terminal and Bus Monitor functionality. In addition, Condor LV-1553 examples provide a rapid jump-start for customized user application programming with LabVIEW.
