ARM Announces RealView Developer Kit For Philips New ARM-Based Microcontroller Solution

CAMBRIDGE, UK – Mar. 13, 2002 – ARM [(LSE: ARM); (Nasdaq: ARMHY)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC processor solutions, today announced at the Embedded Systems Conference West, in San Francisco, Calif., the development of the ARM® RealView™ Developer Kit for solutions based on Philips new embedded controller (Philips and ARM Announce First High-Performance 32-bit RISC-based Standard Embedded Controller Using 0.18 Micron Flash Process – Mar. 13, 2002).

The RealView Developer Kit for these new Philips' solutions includes ARM's industry-leading compilation tools, the advanced RealView debugger and JTAG interface unit. This kit will provide best-in-class code size and performance for the ARM and Thumb® instruction sets, resulting in lower system costs and a higher performance for the end equipment. By coupling these tools with the real time instrumentation provided by the ARM Embedded Trace Macrocell included in the devices, developers will benefit from shortened design cycles and faster time-to-market.

"Microcontroller users look for the most efficient development environment when choosing a microcontroller solution," said Derek Morris, general manager, Development Systems, ARM. "We have a long-standing relationship with Philips, and have been working closely with them to develop tools for their new ARM Powered® solution. Their innovative technology, coupled with our RealView Developer Kit, mark a significant advance for the controller market in terms of real-time performance, visibility of the processor and overall ease of use and ease of debug."

"Tools support from ARM is a crucial factor to the success of our new ARM7™ core-based embedded controller architecture," said Eric McLeod, vice president and general manager, Microcontroller Business Line in the semiconductors division of Philips. "ARM's RealView Developer Kit is fully optimized to help developers achieve maximum efficiency in designing their new systems."

Pricing and Availability
The availability of the RealView Developer Kit for Philips' solutions will coincide with the introduction of the range of Philips' devices in Q4 2002.

About RealView Tools
RealView tools by ARM, provide designers with the best solution for creating and analyzing systems based on ARM technology. ARM RealView tools are designed and used by the creators of the ARM architecture. Because the tools are developed by the designers of the architecture, they enable the highest level of pre-silicon evaluation and development and the broadest range of support for future ARM architecture families and derivatives. ARM RealView tools are fully integrated and provide a complete solution to any design or SoC integration challenge, giving the developer higher confidence in first silicon and a faster time-to-market.
