Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS and Development Tools Support the Renesas SH7720 Processor

MOBILE, Ala., Nov. 16, 2005 -Accelerated Technology®, a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced that the Nucleus® Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and development tools are now available for developers using the Renesas Technology SH7720, a high performance 32-bit RISC processor. The Renesas SH7720 microprocessor is based on the SH3-DSP core and has many integrated peripheral features ideal for consumer electronics, such as USB support and LCD controllers. The Nucleus software release gives developers using the Renesas processor a full-featured, royalty-free solution to better address faster secure network connectivity for a variety of IT and mobile devices such as IP phone, fax terminal, smart phone and direct printer.

The Nucleus RTOS provides a scalable platform that meets the high processing needs of today's embedded systems and is widely used in many embedded applications. In addition to the widely used Nucleus PLUS RTOS, developers utilizing the SH7720 also have available the Nucleus micro-iPLUS kernel, which is compliant with the micro-ITRON standard. Broadly adopted in Japan where it is the de facto standard application programming interface (API), the micro-ITRON specifies a standard API, enabling embedded applications that utilize the API to be executed on any compliant kernel. To round out the offering, Accelerated Technology also offers a complete integrated development environment (IDE), debugging environment and the Renesas SuperH® RISC Engine C/C++ compiler for SH7720 developers. All of these components are tightly integrated so the developer can build the application from design to deployment quickly and easily.

"The Nucleus RTOS support from Accelerated Technology means engineers using our SH7720 processor will have access to not only an RTOS but a rich, integrated development environment and a large selection of middleware products such as a graphics package, file system and networking stack for their embedded applications," said Peter Carbone, director of marketing, System LSI Business Unit at Renesas Technology America, Inc.

"Building on the success of the Nucleus RTOS in consumer applications, this combination of Renesas hardware and the Nucleus software will prove to be a very popular combination for new home telephony applications," said Glen Johnson, product marketing manager, Accelerated Technology, a Mentor Graphics division. "The micro-ITRON version of the Nucleus software will allow reusability and portability of current applications using this popular standard."
