Process/Voltage/Temperature Sensor

Overview

The PVT Sensor IP is designed for on-chip monitoring of processes, voltage, and temperature variations. It is a critical component in modern SoC designs, enabling real-time measurement and monitoring of environmental and operational conditions. It offers a reliable solution for chip operating condition monitoring applications, such as power supply IR drop measurement, high temperature alert, and dynamic performance adjustment.

The PVT Sensor IP consists of SAR ADC, bandgap circuit, oscillator, and digital logic. The SAR ADC is a successive approximation analog-to-digital converter. The bandgap circuit produces an accurate reference voltage for the SAR ADC. It also produces a voltage with a certain temperature coefficient. This temperature-related voltage or external input voltage is sampled by the SAR ADC and converted to a digital signal. The oscillator generates a clock for process corner detection. The digital logic receives clock and control signals from SoC, and then it outputs measurement results to SoC.
