MIPS TECHNOLOGIES LICENSES THE MIPS32TM 4KcTM CORE TO PALMCHIP CORPORATION

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., January 10, 2001 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MIPS, MIPSB), a leading provider of industry standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer and network applications, today announced that it has licensed the MIPS32 4Kc core to Palmchip Corporation. Palmchip provides licensable system-on-chip (SoC) platforms that "pre-build" many of the basic, necessary functions in an SoC device and include interfaces to and libraries of popular embedded processors, as well as other system blocks.

"MIPS Technologies provides one of the world's leading embedded processor architectures that is used across a tremendous breadth of applications," said Melissa Jones, vice president of Marketing for Palmchip. "The MIPS32 4Kc core, combined with Palmchip's technology, will enable a rich, application-ready platform for customers who must have faster ways to design customized ICs."

Muhammad Helal, vice president of North American business development and sales for MIPS Technologies, added, "We are delighted that Palmchip is integrating the MIPS32 4Kc core into its platform solutions. Palmchip's welcomed addition to the MIPS Technologies community means smaller companies will have the benefits from the MIPS architecture."
