It's an old joke, but it's one that still applies in these times of failed startups. Cases include Tier Logic's recent demise and Montalvo Systems' collapse. Like so many fabless semiconductor startups, Tier and Montalvo ended ignominiously not because of deficiencies in their technology, but because the companies simply ran out of money.
