License to Code: Open Source at Freescale

No one cares about Freescale silicon more than Freescale. Hey, it probably doesn’t come as a surprise but we like to sell the stuff. To make that happen, we want it to be very appealing, and a major part of that is making it easy to use out in the real world. Around here we call that “enablement.” We want you to be able to use our stuff really easily, and really well. Software is a huge part of that. I won’t be the first person to say that silicon without software is just sand.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and offer an opinion that writing good, reliable software isn’t easy. I was sitting here thinking about why that might be, and came up with the following analogy. Writing software is a bit like this: put a blindfold on someone, put a bag over their head, put them in a dark windowless room, and then ask them to find the light. Here’s what I mean.
