Serial Gigabit Media Independent Interface
Overview
The Inventra M-SGMII module provides a Serial Gigabit Media Independent Interface between any IEEE 802.3-standard GMII or MII-standard interface and a SGMII interface that is compliant with Revision 1.7 of the Serial GMII specification. The M-SGMII offers this generic, reduced pin-count interface to Ethernet Media Access Controllers (MACs) operating at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps. The M-SGMII thus allows devices such as the PE-MACMII 10/100 Mbps Ethernet MAC and the PE-MCXMAC 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet MAC to connect to SGMII PHYs. (The PE -MACMII and the PE-MCXMAC are also available from the Mentor Graphics Inventra Soft Core Library.)
