Is the market for CPU IP saturated?
While there were some reports that ARM owned CES, a few other CPU IP vendors such as MIPS, Tensilica, and ARC/Virage made news as well. Nobody (who can talk) really knows for sure what is inside the Apple A4 chip unveiled a few weeks later…and this week at MWC we will certainly see much more of the same type of announcements. Given the bold statement on the cover of ARM’s 2007 Annual Report about being “…at the heart of nearly a quarter of all electronic devices sold in the world…” one has to wonder if the market for CPU IP is saturated.
