Management Data Input/Output (MDIO)
CoreMDIO, also known as serial management interface (SMI) is a serial bus defined for the Ethernet family of IEEE 802.3 standards for the media independent interface (MII). The MII connects the media access control (MAC) devices with the Ethernet physical layer (PHY) circuits. The MDIO reads and writes the control and status registers of the PHY, configures each PHY before operation, and monitors link status during operation.
