Line-Rate UDP/IPv6 Offload for Modern FPGA Designs
UOE6 is Atomic Rules’ next-generation UDP Offload Engine, purpose-built for IPv6 networks.
It delivers deterministic, line-rate interconversion between Layer-4 UDP datagrams and Layer-2 Ethernet frames, enabling FPGA designs to send and receive high-rate UDP/IPv6 traffic without software overhead.
Built for performance, reliability, and simplicity, UOE6 extends our proven UOE architecture into the IPv6 era.
What UOE6 Does
UOE6 implements full hardware offload for UDP over IPv6, handling packet formation, parsing, validation, and forwarding entirely in RTL.
This eliminates CPU bottlenecks and provides a deterministic datapath for latency-sensitive, high-bandwidth systems.
- Converts UDP/IPv6 datagrams ↔ Ethernet frames at line rate
- Implements IPv6 Layer-3 functions including Echo, Neighbor Discovery (NDP), and MLD
- Offloads checksum construction/verification, header assembly, and protocol validation
- Ensures RFC-compliant behavior (UDP RFC 768, IPv6 RFC 8200)
- Integrates cleanly into AXI-Stream-based FPGA pipelines
- Tested and supported on both AMD and Intel/Altera devices
If your application needs deterministic UDP/IPv6 transport at high data rates, UOE6 provides a drop-in hardware solution.
Why IPv6 Offload Matters
Systems are rapidly transitioning to IPv6—especially in defense, data-center, sensor-fusion, and high-throughput embedded environments.
Software-handled IPv6 traffic often becomes a bottleneck due to larger headers, additional fields, extended addressing, and more complex L3 behaviors.
UOE6 removes all of that overhead:
- No CPU interrupts
- No OS packet stack traversal
- No firmware bottlenecks
- Predictable, low-jitter packet timing
- Guaranteed line-rate throughput
Your FPGA becomes a first-class IPv6 endpoint capable of sustained, deterministic packet flow.
