GRENOBLE, France — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd.'s Europe technical director said the giant foundry's venture into library design was only the beginning of an increasing presence in the IP industry.
"TSMC is a provider not just of libraries but of more complex IP as well," Douglas Pattullo told the IP/SoC conference here on Wednesday (Dec. 7).
Pattullo said that business necessities made TSMC's move into IP all but inevitable. "TSMC has continued to advance ahead of the ITRS roadmap," the director said. "But adoption by design teams hasn't kept up with the regular appearance of a new process every two years. Migration to new processes is slowing down."
