StarIC Appoints Dr. Masum Hossain as Chief Technology Officer
Toronto, Canada — August 20, 2026 — StarIC, a leader in high-speed electro-optical interconnects and silicon photonics, today announced the appointment of Dr. Masum Hossain as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO). In this role, Dr. Hossain will lead the company's technology vision and architecture for high-speed interconnects and silicon photonics as StarIC scales to meet surging global demand for AI, data center, and high-performance computing infrastructure.
Dr. Hossain is one of the most recognized names in the high-speed communications industry, a global authority in SerDes design with more than 20 years of experience spanning industry and academia. He joins StarIC's executive leadership at a pivotal moment, as the company builds out its electro-photonics platform and deepens its strategic partnership with leading foundries and customers in electro-optics.
"Bringing Masum on as CTO is a defining milestone for StarIC," said Imran Ahmed, CEO of StarIC. "He's one of the most respected minds in high-speed signaling, and with him leading our technology, we're accelerating our mission to become the world's leading provider of electro-photonic solutions. Masum brings exactly the kind of expertise and leadership that will help us deliver on our ambitions."
"The bandwidth demands of AI are pushing electrical interconnects to their limits, and the companies that can truly bridge electronics and photonics are the ones that will define what comes next," said Dr. Hossain. "What drew me to StarIC is the exceptional talent and depth of multi-domain expertise here. It's genuinely rare, and it's exactly what this moment demands. I'm excited to take on the CTO role and help drive that work forward."
A Career at the Frontier of High-Speed Signaling
Over his career, Dr. Hossain has held key technical roles in the semiconductor industry, including Rambus, Intel, and Gennum (now Semtech), where he developed industry-leading high-speed transceiver and clocking architectures. His pioneering work spans NRZ and PAM-4 SerDes solutions operating well beyond 100 Gb/s, precisely the class of technology powering the next generation of AI and data center interconnects.
Dr. Hossain is also an Associate Professor at Carleton University, where he continues to advance game-changing wireline solutions for next-generation SerDes. He has published extensively in the industry's most prestigious venues, including the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) and the Journal of Solid-State Circuits (JSSC), and holds 10 granted patents. He also served as an IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS) Distinguished Lecturer, a distinction reserved for the field's most influential thought leaders. Dr. Hossain holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto.
Building the Future of Interconnects for Intelligence
As StarIC continues its rapid growth, expanding its teams across Canada and the Netherlands and pursuing marquee opportunities across the AI and high-performance computing landscape, Dr. Hossain's leadership positions the company to deliver the energy-efficient, high-bandwidth interconnects that are essential to enabling the intelligence era.
"StarIC operates at the intersection of electronics and photonics, and that's exactly where some of the most important problems in AI, compute, and data center infrastructure are being solved today," said Dr. Hossain. "I'm excited to help lead this talented team as we build a world-class company and shape the future of high-speed electro-optical interconnects."
