POWERVR 3D graphics accelerator core has now shipped in over 100 products
London, UK -- August 7, 2008 -- Imagination Technologies, the leader in mobile graphics technologies, reports that its market leading POWERVR 3D-graphics acceleration technology has now been deployed in a diverse range of over 100 products.
The newest devices incorporating POWERVR graphics entering volume production include: phones such as the Nokia N82, Motorola Z10, Samsung G810 and Sony Ericsson G900; MID and UMPC devices such as the Gigabyte M528 and Sharp Wilcom D4; navigation systems including the Thinkware iNAVI K2; set-top-boxes including the Chunghwa Telecom Multimedia on Demand service; and several market-leading media player (PMP) products.
POWERVR enables 3D graphics in a wide range of devices. While so far the majority are mobile phones from leading brands including Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and others, the major markets for POWERVR are diversifying rapidly and now also include: MID/UMPC , navigation, set-top-box/TV, in-car infotainment and media players. This diversification will continue as POWERVR expands into further emerging markets.
Key to POWERVR’s success is Imagination’s patented tiled based deferred rendering architecture, which is the most optimal and advanced technology for delivering performance and low-power consumption high quality 3D graphics. POWERVR’s robust, proven architecture has been developed over more than a decade of high-volume deployment in markets including PC, console, automotive and mobile.
Over 75 million POWERVR units have been shipped from licensees including Intel, TI, Renesas, Samsung, NEC, Freescale, NXP, SiRF and others, and there are over 50 SoCs incorporating POWERVR currently in design.
