TTPCom brings television to the mobile with low-power DVB-H Technology
February 14, 2005 -- TTPCom Ltd, the world’s leading independent supplier of digital wireless technology, today announces the availability of its DVB-H demodulator/decoder technology. Semiconductor vendors will be able to deploy high performance DVB-H receiver solutions quickly and cost effectively using this intellectual property from TTPCom. Available in the form of a system implementation in RTL , it enables TV reception on next generation handheld devices and mobile phones.
TTPCom’s DVB-H design builds on a highly successful DVB-T demodulator/ decoder that has been licensed by many of the world’s leading semiconductor companies and features in many commercial digital set-top boxes on the market. To date, TTPCom's semiconductor designs have appeared in well over 300M mobile phones. As a result, the company fully understands handset manufacturers' requirements for integrated cellular handset system solutions. This expertise, which encompasses mobile antennae to applications, coupled with TTPCom's unrivalled understanding of DVB receiver design, makes the company an ideal partner for DVB-H product development.
Paul Hanlon, DVB-H product manager at TTPCom comments: “The ability to deliver broadcast multi-media content to mobile phones and handheld devices opens up huge new opportunities for the industry from operators and broadcasters seeking to increase their revenue per subscriber through to cellular handset manufacturers seeking to increase market share by introducing exciting new product features such as digital mobile TV".
TTPCom's intimate understanding of handset manufacturers’ requirements and the importance of low power consumption for mobile/battery powered applications has resulted in a dedicated hardware design, without embedded processor that really meets their needs. The demodulator/ decoder design supports a variety of low IF and zero IF front end tuner architectures and provides standard MPEG transport stream and IP data stream outputs. Both DVB-H and DVB-T receiver functionality is supported on a common hardware platform so enabling devices to be targeted at both markets.
