TIVR's H.264/AVC Video Decoder Software for Mobile Devices is Available for Licensing
Bangalore -- August 24, 2005 - TIVR Communications, a technology startup involved in development of high- performance, low–power multimedia software solutions for next-generation wireless handsets, today announced the release of H.264 Baseline Profile video software decoder optimized for Mobile/Handhelds. TIVR’s H.264/AVC decoder benchmark results show that Real-time (25 fps) decoding of QVGA (320x240) resolution H.264 Baseline Profile streams coded at 256 kbps is achievable on ARM9 based devices running at 220 MHz. Till now industry is struggling to provide 25 fps decode of QVGA resolution H.264 content on Mobile devices. TIVR’s AVC decoder makes it a reality thereby enhancing the experience of mobile users.
TIVR sources commented, “TIVR’s H.264 Video decoder is highly portable across all the platforms and we plan to support wide variety of mobile processors and OS. We presently support ARM7, ARM9, ARM9E, StrongARM & Xscale processors. Evaluation version of decoder is available for Symbian & WinCE OS based SmartPhones/PDAs. We plan to add support for Linux and Palm OS by middle of September.” He adds that they are open to provide support for other processors and OS.
The adoption of H.264 for mobile broadcast services (DVB-H, ISDB-T, DMB) has opened up a vast market for H.264 Video decoder. High quality video at low bit-rate makes H.264 the best choice for content providers for mobile devices. “TIVR has delivered its promise of delivering efficient solutions for mobile multimedia” said company sources “which is the motto of TIVR”.
