Supporting Real time HDTV Streams over Wireless LAN: Wipro Technologies demonstrates Advanced Quality of Services (HCCA) on its Wireless LAN IP solution
- Wipro Technologies, the global IT services division of Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT), announces the launch of its HCCA based next generation IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/i/e intellectual property (IP) cores. HCCA (HCF Controlled Channel Access) is a part of the Quality of Services (QoS) solution over Wireless LAN, based on IEEE 802.11e specification. With this, Wipro now has the complete QoS enabled Wireless LAN IP, consisting of IEEE 802.11e HCCA and also IEEE 802.11e EDCA (Enhanced Distributed Channel Access) / WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia) solutions. Wipro has demonstrated its HCCA based QoS solution in the Wi-Fi Alliance meeting in Beijing, China on 13 September, 2005. Wipro will demonstrate the same in the WiCon America show on October 5 – 6, 2005, Santa Clara, CA.
Quality of Service (QoS) refers to the capability of a network to provide better service to selected network traffic. In basic Wireless LAN network, the performance of all types of data accesses degrade uniformly when the network gets overloaded with traffic. In HCCA based QoS protocol, the Access Point dedicates bandwidth to the individual stations based on the traffic specifications (comprising of periodicity, bandwidth requirement, packet-size etc.) provided by the individual stations. This helps in providing constant bandwidth, very low jitter and very low latency traffic even in an overloaded Wireless LAN network. Thus, HCCA enables applications like real time HDTV Video transfer in a Wireless LAN Network.
“Wipro provides complete QoS enabled Wireless LAN solutions: Priority based solution for Voice-support (EDCA / WMM) and Scheduling based solution for real-time video and data transmission support (HCCA). Support for both versions of QoS will assist Wipro’s customers to penetrate into the growing, high-end Wireless VoIP as well as real-time entertainment domain. Wipro is also participating in the WMM-SA (Wi-Fi Multimedia – Scheduled Access) plug-fests organized by Wi-Fi Alliance, aimed at defining Interoperability test suites for HCCA.” says A. Vasudevan, Vice President, VLSI and System Business Unit, Wipro Technologies.
