Onyx Announces RF and Power Management IP Blocks in Jazz Semiconductor RFCMOS Process
-- Onyx Semiconductor recently announced the availability of two jointly developed IP blocks for RF and power regulation functions. The OY5100 and OY6100 IP blocks have been taped-out in the Jazz CA18HR RFCMOS process and engineering samples will be available in the fourth quarter.
Referring to the announced IP blocks, Sunvir Gujral, president of Onyx Semiconductor said, “these are the first in a series of IP blocks that we are developing for the on-chip power regulation and RF markets.”
Both blocks were developed in partnership with Bangalore, India-based GlobalEdge at their jointly run development center. Other blocks in the pipeline include a DC-DC converter and LO buffers for DCS, PCS, and WLAN applications. Plans to port selected blocks to other foundries are also under consideration.
The OY6100 is a fixed-output low drop-out (LDO) voltage regulator designed in a standard 0.18um CMOS process for easy SOC integration. This 0.8mm2 block can easily be integrated on-chip resulting in significant reduction in board-area and the bill-of-materials. The 100mA output current and high PSRR of 67dB (typical) make the OY6100 ideally suited for powering the baseband and RF sections of many wireless handsets. The low quiescent current with wide input range is very convenient to battery-powered applications. This IP Block features short circuit fall back protection circuitry, shutdown pin, and fault output voltage indication.
The OY5100 is a PN-varactor based 5GHz VCO designed in a 0.18um RFCMOS process. Using external dividers, the VCO can be used in 802.11b/g applications. The design incorporates a fully integrated oscillator and output buffer that provides –7dBm (typical) to 100W differential loads. Optimized for low-power applications, the OY5100 consumes 11mA in operational mode and less than 80nA in shutdown.
