Imagination Technologies Licenses Another POWERVR SGX graphics core to Texas Instruments
October 16, 2007 --Imagination Technologies Group plc – a leader in System-on-Chip Intellectual Property ("SoC IP") – reports that Texas Instruments Incorporated (“TI”), a world-leading semiconductor company, has licensed a second member of Imagination’s POWERVR® SGX graphics core family for use in its future OMAP™ application processor product family under a multiple-use license arrangement.
This announcement extends the highly successful and growing relationship between the two companies. TI uses Imagination’s POWERVR MBX in its OMAP 2 processor family, shipping in volume today, and the POWERVR SGX in TI’s OMAP 3 family of processors, sampling today and expected to ship in volume in 2008.
"While competitors are still talking about these as next-generation technologies, TI has been at the forefront of delivering advanced graphics in mobile devices for user interfaces, navigation and gaming through its industry-leading OMAP processors,” said Raj Talluri, General Manager of TI’s cellular media systems solutions for its Wireless Terminals Business Unit. “After extensive competitive analysis, TI has again selected Imagination’s market-leading POWERVR graphics technology with its impressive combination of features, performance and power-efficiency as well as the comprehensive software support and strong ecosystem it offers mobile phones and mobile computing devices. Our continued strong relationship with Imagination will enable TI to continue delivering the breathtaking graphics capabilities critical for shaping a rich user experience."
Says Hossein Yassaie, CEO, Imagination Technologies: "The success of TI’s OMAP product family has made it a clear leader in mobile applications processors, with an outstanding line-up of leading OEMs deploying OMAP chips in an ever-growing range of mobile phones and other portable devices. Using POWERVR SGX, TI can deliver class-leading OpenGL ES 2.0 ‘shader’ 3D and OpenVG accelerated graphics that rival PCs or consoles for performance, while minimising power consumption - which is vital in the highly competitive mobile market. We are delighted to be extending our leading position in graphics for mobile devices through this wider deployment of POWERVR SGX with TI."
Under the terms of its licensing arrangements Imagination receives license fees and royalty revenues on SoCs incorporating Imagination’s IP shipped by partners.
