ARM and Samsung Electronics Extend Strategic Long-Term Licensing Agreement
Samsung extends subscription license and retains access to key ARM processor and Fabric IP
CAMBRIDGE, UK – Feb. 5, 2008 – ARM and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a global leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today announced an extension to their strategic partnership with a new licensing agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, Samsung will continue to have access to all ARM® processors and AMBA® on-chip interconnect and controller IP for use in future products aimed at the wireless, digital consumer and mobile internet device markets.
The agreement is an extension of the previous subscription license and will enable Samsung to obtain early access to new technology, including the recently announced ARM Cortex™-A9 processor, and broad access to a wide range of ARM IP.
“ARM is delighted that Samsung have extended its commitment to the ARM architecture. Through the earlier subscription licence we have enjoyed a very close relationship with Samsung for many years and we are confident that this agreement will further strengthen that mutually beneficial partnership,” said Graham Budd, EVP and general manager, Processor Division, ARM.
“Samsung has already achieved considerable success with products based on the ARM architecture, one of the most advanced building blocks for future digital electronics,” said Sung Bae Park, vice president, System LSI Division, Samsung Electronics. “The ARM technology will be integrated into our product portfolio for next-generation electronic products, including portable media players and mobile internet devices. We look forward to continuing our long and fruitful relationship with ARM.”
