Dongbu HiTek Adds ARM926EJ-S Processor to Intellectual Property Portfolio in Support of System-on-Chip Designs
--Dongbu HiTek today announced it has licensed the ARM926EJ-S™ processor to include in its expanding Intellectual Property (IP) Portfolio. Optimized for Dongbu’s processing at the 130 nanometer (nm) node, the newly added ARM® IP enables reduced time and cost in designing System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions that target the increasingly complex mobile handset and consumer products coming to market.
As a member of the ARM9E™ family of processors, the ARM926EJ-S processor enables multi-tasking applications where full memory management, high performance, small die size, and low power are all important. It also supports 32-bit ARM and 16-bit ARM Thumb® instruction sets as well as the efficient execution of Java byte codes.
“We are pleased to extend our relationship to make the ARM926EJ-S processor available to our foundry customers,” said Dr. Jae Song, EVP of Dongbu HiTek. “Fabless firms using the ARM926EJ-S processor optimized for our 130nm process should be able to shrink SoC development time by several months while also realizing significant cost savings.” He confirmed that the ARM926EJ-S processor represents the third ARM processor added to Dongbu’s IP Portfolio, preceded by the ARM7TDMI® processor used to design chips for low-cost mobile handsets such as MP3 players and the ARM922T™ processor used to design chips for wireless communications.
“We view ARM as the leading developer of 32-bit processors, which continue to have a leading position in mobile phone applications,” added Dr. Song. “The increasingly complex products coming to market – including DMB phones, PMPs, set-top boxes, digital cameras and game consoles – all need the performance, small footprint and low-power consumption that the newly added ARM processor provides.”
Dr. Song underscored Dongbu’s expanding capabilities to provide best-in-class SoC design support. “In addition to the ARM processors, we also offer IP that enables the integration of Analog-to-Digital Conversion, Phased Locked Loop (PLL) and USB Communications functions.” He noted that Dongbu’s licensed agreement with ARM in January, 2007 resulted in the ARM® Metro™ low-power high-density standard cell library, part of its family of Artisan® physical IP, being added to the Korean foundry’s design support resources.
“The addition of the ARM926EJ-S processor to Dongbu’s portfolio of ARM IP, together with our market-leading physical IP products, will enable Dongbu to provide our mutual customers with a class-leading solution for developing low-power, high-performance digital devices,” said Graham Budd, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Processor Division, ARM. “The ARM926EJ-S processor has been one of ARM’s most popular processors and to date has been widely used in applications including next generation smart phones, communicators & PDAs, 3G baseband, digital still cameras and automotive infotainment.”
