ARM Announces Availability of ARMulator Development Tools for Securcore
ARM Instruction Set Simulator, ARMulator development tools, enables smart card software development
CAMBRIDGE, UK - May 16, 2001 - ARM [(LSE:ARM); (Nasdaq:ARMHY)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC processor technology, today announced the availability of the ARMulator[tm] development tools for the ARM® SecurCore[tm] family of microprocessor cores. In conjunction with the existing development suites from ARM, the ARM SecurCore microprocessor core licensees and developers can now start detailed design development for smart card and security applications. As the first SecurCore microprocessor core licensee, Atmel will integrate the ARM SecurCore microprocessor core and the ARMulator development tools into its own smart card IC tools offering.
The ARM SecurCore technology targets the rapidly growing security market, enabling the development of fast, secure, ARM Powered® solutions for a variety of eCommerce applications including mobile communications, PayTV, financial systems and health care. The ARMulator development tools will allow developers and IC manufacturers to model smart card or secure system designs before manufacture, ensuring greater confidence that the end product will be 'right first time'.
"The market for secure applications is rapidly emerging and ARM is addressing this with our SecurCore microprocessor core. We have already seen some outstanding ARM design wins in the smart card space, for example Incard's Mokard SIM and Atmel's commitment to use the SecurCore core for smart card microprocessors," said Domique Lutz, Secure segment manager, ARM. "With the availability of the ARMulator development tools, we are giving our SecurCore microprocessor core licensees the best possible start in developing secure applications which will allow developers to quickly create leading-edge solutions."
"Atmel intends to integrate the ARM SC100[tm] technology and the ARMulator model into the development tools offering for our planned SecurCore-based microprocessors," said Hervé Roche, Marketing manager, Internet Transactions, Atmel. "The flexibility of the SecurCore model, which allows us to integrate accurate models of our smart card peripherals and memory, including EEPROM and FLASH, gives us the versatility we need to produce the smart card designs our customers need."
The ARMulator is the first set of development tools that ARM is providing specifically for the SecurCore family. The ARMulator development tools add to ARM's already extensive development solutions and integrate seamlessly with the ARM Developer Suite[tm] toolkit which provides powerful and easy to use compilers, linkers and debuggers.
Product Availability
The ARMulator development tools will be available through secure channels directly from ARM and from ARM's SecurCore licensees. The ARM Developer Suite is available directly from ARM or from ARM's distributors. Please see the ARM web site for further details.
