Vivante Introduces Industry's First Vision IP with OpenVX and OpenCL
GC7000-XS VX brings high-performance, programmable real-time vision processing to mobile and embedded platforms
Santa Clara, California – June 1, 2015 – Vivante® Corporation announces that its GC7000-XS VX is the first vision IP solution to achieve compliance with the OpenVX 1.0 specification—a major achievement that comes only seven months after the introduction of OpenVX and emphasizes the cutting-edge technology available in the GC7000-XS product line with the addition of vision acceleration to a core that already has photorealistic 3D rendering capabilities.
“Vivante is working with leading industry partners to deliver high-performance, real-time, intelligent vision image processing solutions in mobile, automotive and smart security products through our OpenVX and OpenCL® based Vivante GPUs” said Wei-Jin Dai, CEO and President of Vivante. “This innovative design enables SoC vendors to use the same processing core for embedded vision acceleration and photorealistic 3D rendering, while limiting power consumption to mobile levels.”
Vivante’s OpenVX compliant GC7000-XS VX allows high-level deeply-embedded devices to optimize their real time performance for minimal power consumption by allowing continuous sensory vision processes to function without fully powering on the GPU.
OpenVX can be used directly by applications or to accelerate higher-level middleware, including the popular OpenCV vision library, which is often used for application prototyping. It is also an ideal foundation for use in production systems, with extensive conformance tests to complement a focused and tightly defined specification for consistent and reliable operation across multiple vendors and platforms. Like other Khronos™ specifications, OpenVX is extensible to meet individual customer needs before an extension is integrated into the core specification.
“I am excited to see Vivante release the first of what we believe will be many IP solutions leveraging the power of OpenVX,” said Victor Erukhimov, CEO of Itseez and Chairman of the Khronos OpenVX working group. “Performance and area-optimized OpenVX GPUs like Vivante’s will enable the next generation of computer vision processing in embedded and real-time applications, including face, body and gesture tracking, smart video surveillance, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), object and scene reconstruction, augmented reality, visual inspection, robotics and more."
