Square Acquires Kili Technology
March 12, 2015 -- After we launched our first Square Reader more than five years ago, we went right back to the drawing board to develop even better hardware and improve the way we build it. Several card readers (and one Square Stand) later, we’re still at it, building devices that are thinner, smarter, and more accurate and reliable than what’s come before.
The payments landscape is changing faster than ever -- from EMV to NFC -- and we know that major technology shifts often leave small businesses behind. Our job is to continue to make the smartest and sexiest payments hardware on the planet accessible to them.
That’s why we’ve acquired Kili Technology, a company that has developed silicon, electronics, and software that simplify and optimize payment processing. They have an experienced technology team who, like our sellers, are relentless innovators and never satisfied. Together we’ll continue to lead the way in delivering simple and affordable hardware that gives our sellers a smarter and safer way to do business.
The team will continue operations in Toronto, Canada. Their headquarters will become our second office in the country, alongside our other office in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, which we opened in the spring of 2014.
