Scottish IP and chip technology company, Acuid has announced raising a further $8m in private equity funding from its existing investor, HgCapital. The company has been developing Chip to Chip Connection technology (CCT) and now hopes to move beyond its R&D work to product promotion with the further investment. According to the company, it is now on schedule to produce the first silicon version of its technology later in the new year. Hans Rohrer, CEO of Acuid, said: “Fulfilling our potential is a big challenge, but as a young company we are in a very strong position. We know semiconductor companies have now reached the stage where their products are being hampered by outdated Chip to Chip Connection Technology. Acuid's technologies can fundamentally change that. "The silicon version of our technology is on schedule for customer evaluation early next year and we now have the means to put a greater focus on our sales operation and accessing our key markets.” The company delivers its technology in pre-tested silicon proven mega cells which then get embedded onto ASIC's/ FPGA's, DRAM chips, microprocessors and graphic controllers. The technology is protected by eight core patents which have already been granted and by forty-four applied patents. The company plans to make the technology available through licensing agreements which will include services as design support, documentation and system integration.
