eSilicon licenses Ethernet chip technology from Mysticom

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Fabless ASIC startup eSilicon Corp. here announced that it is licensing Ethernet-based, physical-layer (PHY) chip technology from Mysticom Ltd. of Mountain View, Calif. Through a technology licensing agreement, the two companies will enable customers to design custom system-on-chip (SoC) devices for a variety of access network applications such as ADSL cable modems, home gateways and set-top boxes. Mysticom's MystiPHY110 is a reusable core that brings complex, mixed-signal functionality to SoCs using standard digital CMOS process technologies. "While Ethernet has long been the standard in local area networks, its low cost and ease-of-use make it attractive to access network applications as well," said Prasad Subramaniam, vice president of design technology at eSilicon. "We have a number of customers developing SoCs for this growing market segment, and they require Ethernet technologies that can be cost effectively int egrated into their devices," he said.
