Barco Silex Demonstrates 4K Video over IP with JPEG2000 on a single FPGA at NAB 2014
Louvain-la-Neuve, March 28, 2014 – Barco Silex, the leading provider of FPGA based video solutions and JPEG2000 compression IP cores, has upgraded to 4K its well-known Video over IP reference design that integrates Barco Silex JPEG2000 compression and Transport Stream solutions with Xilinx SMPTE 2022 cores on a single Kintex-7 device. Fully compliant with the VSF (Video Services Forum) technical recommendation, this design insures interoperability with major broadcast industry players as it was demonstrated at the VidTrans 2014 meeting in Arlington, VA on February 26 to 28.
This new version of the reference design combines Barco Silex JPEG2000 compression and flexible MPEG2-TS cores with Xilinx SMPTE2022 1-2 on a Kintex-7 FPGA to carry a 4K video stream over 1G network. The 4K video is captured via Quad-SDI, and is encoded by the high quality Barco Silex JPEG2000 encoder core. The integrated Barco Silex Transport Stream solution combined with the Xilinx SMPTE2022 1-2 core is providing interoperability thanks to its proven compliance with the VSF technical recommendations.
“This ready-to-use reference design is a great development tool”, said Jean-Marie Cloquet, Manager of the image processing division of Barco Silex. “Broadcast equipment OEM’s can now benefit from this hardware-proven solution to accelerate their product development, including 4K capabilities, with standard-compliant and high-performance Video over IP transport and JPEG 2000 coding. Moreover, thanks to its flexible and modular architecture, this design can also be used for a wide variety of video transport applications”.
Barco Silex will showcase its JPEG 2000 and 4K Video over IP solutions at the NAB 2014 tradeshow next month in Las Vegas (Booth C 4743).
