Fiberhome of China selects Avalon Microelectronics for 40G IP
January 03, 2007 -- St. John’s, NL, Canada -- Avalon Microelectronics today announced that Fiberhome of Wuhan, China has selected Avalon’s FPGA based Intellectual Property for 40G Optical Transport applications.
“This is our first step into what is a large market for Avalon” said Wally Haas, President and Director of Engineering of Avalon. “There is significant activity in this market segment within China and Avalon has the products and expertise required to win much future business from the area”.
Fiberhome purchased a license to use Avalon’s SFI-5 and 40G SDH/SONET IP cores. Avalon is providing Fiberhome with the complete Field Programmable Standard Product (FPSP) – a flexible, customized, FPGA based solution.
Avalon’s 40G IP cores are used in a variety of applications including DWDM Platforms, Routers, and Multi-service Switches. "With our 40G IP library, Avalon enables OEMs to quickly develop systems requiring SONET/SDH and OTN technology” said Mr. Haas. “Avalon’s FPSP approach also allows customers to adapt their product quickly to changes in market demands without costly board re-spins”.
Avalon is continuing development of FPGA-based IP components used for high speed optical transport and Ethernet applications.
