JPEG XS Officially Joins GenICam, The Machine Vision Standard Managed By EMVA

JPEG XS is now officially supported as a compression technology within the GenICam framework, under the supervision of The European Machine Vision Association (EMVA). This milestone represents a major advancement for the machine vision industry, enabling higher performance, improved efficiency, and greater interoperability across imaging systems and devices.
The GenDC specification of EMVA’s renowned GenICam standard now supports the transport of JPEG XS encoded content. This integration opens a new chapter for streamlined communication and efficient data exchange within the machine vision ecosystem. The integration with GenDC also enables seamless deployment of JPEG XS across a broad range of machine vision interfaces, including USB3 Vision, GigE Vision, CoaXPress, and Camera Link, ensuring consistent and high-performance transport throughout multiple ecosystems.
GenDC is an integral part of GenICam, providing a universal programming interface (API) for a wide range of devices, primarily cameras, independent of interface technology. With JPEG XS now integrated, machine vision systems can fully leverage the benefits of ultra-low latency and visually lossless compression while maximizing compatibility across platforms.
JPEG XS also uniquely supports direct compression of raw Bayer CFA content, eliminating the need for debayering before encoding. This capability is particularly valuable for industrial and machine vision cameras, where preserving image fidelity, minimizing latency, and optimizing bandwidth are essential.
