Fraunhofer IIS and ARRI announce partnership for post-production workflows at IBC 2025

September 10, 2025 -- Erlangen/Munich, Germany  --  The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS and ARRI today announced a partnership to combine their expertise in the field of high-quality image coding, color science and cinematic image processing. The goal is to enable transport and storage of highest-quality image data in media and post-production workflows while maintaining full processing flexibility. This collaboration aims to significantly enhance the quality and performance as well as the time-cost-efficiency in current and future media production.

The Fraunhofer IIS experts for image coding and leading contributor to image coding standards such as JPEG 2000 and JPEG XS announced their partnership with ARRI, one of the international leaders in cameras and tools that expand creative possibilities for filmmakers and other content producers to the highest standard.

“We are very excited to combine our know-how in efficient, near loss-less image compression with ARRI´s renowned capabilities in color science and cinematic image processing pipelines. This joint effort will lead to new implementations that focus on high-quality transport and storage of camera data for seamless workflow integration,” says Prof. Siegfried Foessel, Head of Moving Picture Technologies at Fraunho-fer IIS and Technical Professor at the Munich Film School HFF.

At IBC 2025 in Amsterdam Fraunhofer IIS will showcase their latest developments for JPEG XS that provides the ideal foundation for software-defined workflows, transmission and transport of high-quality video. The Fraunhofer JPEG XS SDK enables manufacturers and broadcasters to easily implement file-based workflows using MXF as well as IP-based workflows for ST-2110, IMPX and MPEG-TS at highest quality.

“The close exchange between Fraunhofer IIS and ARRI over the years regarding high-performing technologies for high-quality filmmaking has once again led to this partnership. In times when file- and IP-based technologies are the natural foundation of media production, our mission is to deliver the best user experience through innovative hardware products and integrated solutions. With the video coding experts from Fraunhofer, we are confident that we have partnered with scientists and engineers who are cut from the same cloth as we are, “ explains David Bermbach, Managing Director, ARRI Cine Technik.
