Altera Qualifies MAX II CPLD Family for Extended Temperature Range
San Jose, Calif., November 7, 2005
—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ:ALTR) today announced the successful qualification of the MAX® II CPLD family for use in extended temperature range applications. Altera qualified the MAX II CPLD family to operate at a junction temperature of -40 degrees C to +125 degrees C. This addition to Altera’s extended temperature device portfolio offers designers a low-cost, flexible solution for automotive telematics, infotainment and driver assistance systems, as well as temperature-sensitive military and industrial applications.
“Programmable logic devices offer many advantages over other silicon solutions such as ASSPs and ASICs, including lower development costs, shorter development times and greater design flexibility,” said Luanne Schirrmeister, Altera’s director of CPLD product marketing. “The extended temperature support allows design engineers who are working on systems with stringent temperature requirements to benefit from the cost and flexibility advantages of the MAX II CPLD family.”
As part of Altera’s commitment to be the leading provider of environmentally friendly programmable logic solutions, all extended temperature MAX II CPLDs will be available with lead-free package options. All standard MAX II CPLDs are already available in lead-free packages.
About MAX II Devices
The instant-on and non-volatile MAX II family offers densities ranging from 240 to 2,210 logic elements (LEs), up to 272 user I/O pins and innovative board-management features such as user flash memory for general purpose, low-density logic applications. The MAX II CPLDs provide cost and density advantages that give designers flexible, cost-effective alternatives to ASSPs and ASICs.
Availability
The 3.3V/2.5V version of the MAX II family is available now in extended temperature. The 1.8V version of MAX II family is scheduled to be available in extended temperature in December 2005. In addition to ordering volume shipments from distributors, customers can order small quantities for prototyping on Altera’s e-store at buy.altera.com.
