H.264 Codec Leader Launches Hardware IP for High Definition Encoder for Resolutions up to 1080p
WWComs Delivers Commercially Successful H.264 Algorithms in Silicon IP
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- March 7, 2006 -- Meeting the demands of a marketplace that is rapidly migrating to hardware acceleration for complex H.264 video compression technology, W&W Communications, Inc. (WWComs) today announced the launch of its Hardware IP, which delivers high definition encoding up to 1080p (1920x1080 pixels) with the industry's most efficient gate count and flexible architecture. The H.264ENC-IP has a modular transaction based micro architecture, which enables high definition and multi-codec standards as well as multi-channel applications.
WWComs developed the H.264ENC-IP for high Definition video markets such as the video conferencing, broadcast streaming and video surveillance segments. Switching from one high definition channel to 6 simultaneous D1 (720x480) channels, or in some instances 24 CIF (352x288) channels, is a user-defined option available through WWComs innovative modular design.
The H.264ENC-IP is demonstrable in a single FPGA today and fully synthesizable. SystemC models are also available for evaluation. The H.264ENC-IP provides customers with a PCI development platform and a fully supported Linux software developer kit.
"The H.264ENC-IP is the most efficient and flexible solution for high definition or multi-channel H.264 silicon IP available today," said Farhad Mighani, Vice President of Hardware Development at WWComs. WWComs has a critical match in a world-class hardware design team combined with H.264 algorithms that have been commercially tested and refined over the last three years in DSPs. "Perfecting the H.264ENC-IP in software first allowed WWComs to develop the most efficient designs in critical modules such as the motion estimation and motion compensation module before committing to silicon."
"The H.264ENC-IP solution addresses a range of customer needs and will help them achieve faster time-to-market and reduce overall system cost," said James Liu, WWComs CTO. "The H.264ENC-IP will also accelerate the adoption of H.264 video compression technology in the marketplace."
