Aspex Semiconductor reaches profitability - wins significant contracts
London -- February 20, 2009 - Aspex Semiconductor today announced that the company has secured a number of significant orders for its Accelera cards, Silicon Intellectual Property (SIP) and has entered into a long-term development contract to build a 65nm custom ASIC device. The revenues from these contracts will enable Aspex to cover all of its operating costs for the foreseeable future.
Aspex's CEO, Paul Greenfield said: "We are cautiously optimistic about the markets for our products and services, and are naturally pleased to achieve profitability on a run-rate basis. We are grateful to our investors, led by Spark Ventures, who have been extremely patient, and at this time we do not foresee the need for new funds from investors. Our team of software and silicon designers has worked incredibly hard throughout to develop a world class solution for High Definition video compression, and clearly this sector has significant growth potential".
Aspex has been shipping advanced video chips and boards into the Broadcast, Medical, Printing and Wafer inspection segments, and has recently delivered 125 of its Accelera cards to a customer in Asia with a contract generating revenues of $1.25M+.
Aspex is also seeing strong interest in, and revenues from, its Semiconductor Intellectual Property (SIP) library. The flagship product in this library is a software programmable IP core (known as Q) for High Definition video compression supporting the H.264 and MPEG (2/4) standards where a major licensing deal has just been won.
Aspex Semiconductor employs around 20 staff at its design centre in High Wycombe and is currently recruiting for several senior engineering positions in its software group. For more information about the company please visit www.aspex-semi.com.
