Anyka Selects ARM Architecture For Advanced Multimedia Processor Development
ARM926EJ-S processor to accelerate Anyka multimedia processor design with enhanced support for media-rich applications
SHENZHEN, CHINA AND CAMBRIDGE, UK â July 18, 2006 â Anyka Cayman Corporation (âAnykaâ), a pioneer in mobile multimedia application processors, and ARM [(LSE: ARM); (Nasdaq: ARMHY)], today announced that Anyka has licensed the ARM926EJ-STM processor through the ARM® Foundry Program. Anyka has adopted the DSP and ARM Jazelle® technology-enabled ARM926EJ-S processor to support advanced multimedia features for consumer applications. The new ARM Powered® product by Anyka is expected to be available in Q1 2007.
As connectivity and data transfer speeds are significantly improved in mobile phones and consumer electronics, users are also expecting high-quality multimedia infotainment on their portable devices. At the same time, mobile operators and content providers are demanding end-devices that incorporate enhanced multimedia functionalities, so that they can offer new services and content for future revenue growth. The ARM926EJ-S processor features a 16-bit fixed point DSP instruction set and supports ARM Jazelle technology, which enables developers to build in the capability to run high-performance multimedia applications much faster, with minimal power consumption at lower price points.
âAs we looked to incorporate enhanced multimedia features into Anyka processors, the ARM architecture stood out as the natural choice to address the market demand for media-rich applications,â said Dr. Norman Hu, CEO of Anyka. âBy using ARM technology, we can also benefit from the well established ARM Connected Community, which accelerates access to all the resources we need throughout the design cycle. This plays a critical part in meeting usersâ fast-changing requirements for cutting-edge consumer electronics.â
âAdding more multimedia features and functionalities into consumer electronics requires engineers to develop much more complex software for their SoC solutions. This has become one of the biggest challenges in IC design today,â said Dr. Jun Tan, president of ARM China. âARM is committed to helping Partners such as Anyka to develop world-class SoC products, as the provider of technology that lies at the heart of the consumersâ digital world.â
The ARM926EJ-S processor supports all major operating systems including Symbian OS, Windows CE and Linux, which makes it an ideal choice for communications and multimedia applications. The ARM926EJ-S processor is a single-chip MCU, DSP and Java solution that can greatly benefit engineers by reducing development costs and shortening development cycles.
