Elliptic Technologies Announces the Availability of High Performance, NIST SP 800-90 Compliant Random Number Generators
Proven Technology Provides Complete RNG solutions designed for latest FIPS 140 Compliance Supported across Semiconductor Processes and FPGAs
April 16, 2014 – Ottawa, Canada: Elliptic Technologies, a leading provider of security solutions for the connected world, today announced the launch of two NIST (National Institute of Standards Technology) SP 800-90a/b/c Compliant True Random Number Generators (TRNG): CLP-850 and CLP-890 to add to their extensive security portfolio. Elliptic customers and partners can rely on this new technology to provide the highest level of FIPS 140 compliant security. Portable across semiconductor process technologies and FPGAs, Elliptic's TRNGs are proven in a wide variety of customer designs, giving chip manufacturers peace of mind and the ability to reliably reduce their time to market.
TRNGs are required in many applications such as wired and wireless networking, government and military communications, payment transaction processing and content protection. TRNGs are used to generate keys, initialize vectors and other random numbers used in many security standards. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a fast-growing market where data can easily be intercepted and devices can be hacked, especially if weak RNGs are selected. Rigid compliance with the latest FIPS 140 standard can provide protection against malicious attacks and alleviates concerns about security backdoor issues such as those widely reported in the media recently.
"True Random Number Generators are one of the most crucial elements for security and privacy on devices and systems. Without them, chip manufacturers run the risk of creating hardware that is prone to attack which can be catastrophic to businesses and consumers," said Mike Borza, Chief Technology Officer of Elliptic Technologies. "Our robust and low power design allows our customers to quickly implement FIPS 140-2 compliant solutions that will also comply with the upcoming FIPS 140-3. These provide a reliable source of cryptographic quality random numbers across process technologies, and removes portability challenges for chip designers. We've made it easier to integrate than ever, without compromising quality."
"I am thrilled with the achievements our Engineering team has made to create a highly secure TRNG product line that sets Elliptic apart from the competition," said Vijay Dube, President and CEO of Elliptic Technologies. "Creating this extremely portable, proven and trusted technology ensures our customers can meet the most stringent security standards while bringing their technology faster to market."
Elliptic's TRNG products are being shipped and implemented on market-leading chipsets in devices using a wide range of silicon processes and FPGAs around the world.
About Elliptic's TRNG Product Offering
CLP-890: Elliptic's CLP-890 Smart RNG is a high performance "Live, Enhanced" Non-deterministic Random Number Generator, fully compliant with the NIST SP-800c draft standard. The core combines a NIST SP 800-90b approved conditioning circuit with a NIST SP 800-90b compliant noise source and NIST SP 800-90a approved Deterministic Random Number Generator. This provides high speed operation while generating an Independent and Identically Distributed (IID) random sequence of bits. The noise source does not depend on process-specific circuitry and is therefore very portable across different ASIC and FPGA fabrication technologies.
CLP-850: Elliptic's CLP-850 Smart TRNG provides a high performance "Live, Full Entropy Source" by combining a NIST SP 800-90b approved conditioning circuit with a noise source that may be used to seed a random number stream as well as provide an ongoing source of entropy. The noise source does not depend on process-specific circuitry and is therefore very portable across different ASIC and FPGA fabrication technologies. The CLP-850 is also compliant with the AIS-20 and -31 specifications.
CLP-800: Elliptic's CLP-800 Smart TRNG is optimized for size, power and ease of use and provides a "Live, Conditioned Digitized Noise Source". The implementation is compatible with stock digital standard cell processes and can easily be tuned for a specific target library/process at the customer's request.
