Vitesse's SynchroPHY Family Sets New Standard for Timing Accuracy in Mobile Networks
Industry's Highest Accuracy, Broadest Portfolio of Timing Solutions Supporting 1GE, 10GE and 10GE OTN
CAMARILLO, Calif.-- July 25, 2012 -- Continuing its drive to strategically advance Ethernet technology, Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: VTSS), a leading provider of advanced IC solutions for Carrier and Enterprise networks, today unveiled its SynchroPHY™ portfolio of 1 Gigabit Ethernet (GE), 10GE and 10GE OTN PHYs. Featuring Vitesse's VeriTime™, its patent-pending distributed timing technology that delivers the industry's highest accuracy IEEE1588v2 timing for IP Edge networks, the SynchroPHY portfolio offers the industry's broadest and most scalable solution supporting timing needs for Ethernet, microwave and OTN networks.
Forecasted as the dominant synchronization technology for future mobile networks, the IEEE1588v2 timing protocol will be imperative for all IP Edge networks. Vitesse's leadership in IEEE1588v2 timing stems from its more than 25 year history providing Carrier and Enterprise networking solutions, as well as its active participation in industry standards bodies. Vitesse experience combines hundreds of millions of GE ports shipped, together with multiple generations of IEEE1588v2 IP that have been validated by major OEMs in real-world tests. Vitesse recently reported network performance results to the ITU-T documenting VeriTime's < 3ns per hop accuracy over a nine-hop IEEE1588v2 Transparent Clock (TC) network, making it the industry's only solution that fulfills TD-LTE and LTE-Advanced requirements in real-world tests today.
Network equipment OEMs now have a viable upgrade path for IEEE1588v2 with Vitesse's SynchroPHY and other VeriTime-enabled solutions. Vitesse's IP Edge portfolio, comprised of Carrier Ethernet Switch Engines and the SynchroPHY family, enables the industry's highest accuracy, all-hardware IEEE1588v2 implementation, critical for 4G/LTE/LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) mobile network deployments. This low-cost upgrade is achievable simply by replacing existing PHYs with Vitesse's SynchroPHY devices, with minimal or no other changes to the rest of the system.
"Our SynchroPHY family enables sub-10 nanosecond accurate timing through a simple upgrade of PHYs in existing routers and switches," said Richard Interrante, product marketing director at Vitesse. "With Vitesse's unique architectural approach, VeriTime-enabled solutions achieve the in-line speed and scalability crucial to the functionality of 4G service provider networks."
