Digital Core Design releases DRPIC166X, a Configurable 8-bit RISC Microcontroller
- Semiconductor Intellectual Property (IP) provider Digital Core Design today has announced the new extremely fast version of popular PIC 166X microcontroller, so called DRPIC166X. Fully software-compatible with the popular PIC16C6XX, PIC16C7XX, PIC16C8XX but four times faster. The new core is an excellent choice for many embedded controller applications, and it provides an extremely high performance and cost-effective alternative for replacing older parts.
The Core employs a pipelined single cycle architecture 4 times faster compared to original implementation. The DRPIC166X microcontroller implemented in today's programmable devices allows for a 60 times speed/performance improvement over original implementation. DCD belief that DRPIC166X is now the fastest PIC166X design on the IP market. All DRPIC166X instructions are executed within a single clock period (CLK pin), except the conditional and unconditional program branches which are executed within 2 system clock periods. Besides the speed improvement DRPIC166X contains 24 general purpose I/O lines, Timers 0, 1, 2, Compare/Capture module, USART, DoCD debugger, and supports program and data memory areas up to 64 k words for program memory and up to 512 bytes of data memory.
The new DRPIC166X core is 100% software compatible with PIC16CXXX. The 100% software compatibility of the DRPIC166X core means that developers can confidently use it with the very broad set of compilers, debugging aids, and general technical knowledge that has grown around this popular microcontroller.
Customer can select VHDL, VERILOG HDL Source code, and FPGA Netlists depends what is preferred. Core is licensed under Single Design or Unlimited Designs options. For further details please contact DCD - http://www.dcd.pl/acontact.php
