ARC provides Jennic with enabling technology for communications systems design
Elstree, England, 7 March 2001 - ARC International, a leading designer and developer of customisable, high-performance microprocessors, announced today that the chipless semiconductor company Jennic is using ARC's configurable 32-bit processor for Jennic's communications system design.
Brian Bennett, director of marketing at Jennic said, "ARC brings to us a key enabling technology for the implementation of our Streaming Data Controller (SDC). This is a foundation level function within the intellectual property that Jennic has developed for packet processing applications such as BluetoothTM, WLAN (wireless local area network) and set-top boxes." He adds, "The primary reasons for choosing ARC's 32-bit processor core are its configurability and flexibility. In particular, the core's ability to support different architectures and extensions helps us to minimise silicon area, code size and power consumption while obviating the need for a low level RTOS (real time operating system) in some applications."
The configurability and extensibility of ARC's Tangent processor allows customers to create a processor core tailored to their application - providing considerable flexibility for communications applications. The core can be optimised for cost, silicon area, power consumption, memory space, and performance. This is unlike many other processor cores that are fixed, and cannot be modified by customers. With ARC's ARChitect point-and-click interface, designers can create a custom Tangent-A4 processor in minutes. ARC's processor is also extendible, which allows developers to add additional features to the processor core.
Jennic is a 'chipless' semiconductor company which designs and develops complex, leading edge semiconductor solutions precisely tailored to individual customer requirements. Leveraging proven expertise in systems and in system-on-chip design, Jennic enables its customer to incorporate state-of-the-art technology into wired and wireless applications.
Jennic was founded in 1996. The company is headquartered in Sheffield, UK and has design centres in Sheffield and Milton Keynes. Jennic remains a company privately owned by its founders, investors and staff.
