H.264/AVC 1080 60p Baseline Profile Encoder - Intra-Only Version

Because of its compact design, it can be implemented in cheap FPGAs to reduce the costs. (e.g. CycloneV series, Artix7 series)

Overview

H.264/AVC encoder/decoder have been used in a wide range of the fields such as digital cameras, surveillance cameras, and broadcasting equipment since the specification was standardize in 2003, but nowadays, in order to downsize the equipment, reduce the costs, and consider the environment, there is a need to implement them in smaller devices with low power consumption.
TMC has developed a compact, low-power encoder/decoder that maintains high image quality and performance.

Specification

Supported Standards Compliant to ISO/IEC14496-10, ITU-T Rec. H.264, Baseline Profile
Maximum Performance 1920 x 1080/60p (3840 x 2160/30p)
Image Format YCbCr 4:2:0
Image Bit Depth 8 bits
Output Format Byte stream format (Annex B)

This IP supports both color spaces of YCbCr and YUV.

Key features

  • Because of its compact design, it can be implemented in cheap FPGAs to reduce the costs. (e.g. CycloneV series, Artix7 series)
  • Depending on the device used, processing at up to 4K30fps is possible. (e.g. Arria10 series, Kintex Ultrascale(+) series, with support for devices from Lattice, Efinix, and Microchip)
  • The low operating frequency made it possible to reduce the power consumption.
  • No external memory access made it possible to reduce the cost.
  • Developed based on design assets used in digital cameras for many years, maintaining high image quality and high performance.
  • The encoder supports direct image input and stream output without using the AXI bus. (Optional feature)
