Overview

The 10G Ethernet XGMAC IP is designed for 1/2.5/5/10G Ethernet applications, providing a comprehensive set of configurable features for an optimized implementation. It can be configured as MAC only, with a FIFO interface on the transmit and receive side or with an ARM® AMBA® AXI primary/secondary interface. The Management Data Input/Output (MDIO) access can be configured for the AMBA APB™ or AMBA AXI secondary interfaces.

The XGMAC IP provides a 10G Media-Independent Interface (XGMII) for communication with a 10G PHY. This also provides a MDIO interface for addressing IEEE 802.3 compliant MDIO devices.

The Ethernet XGMAC can be coupled with standards compliant, full-duplex inline MACsec Security Modules enabling designers to quickly integrate security in their system for a fast time-to-market and reduced risk.

The vendor provides a complete, silicon-proven 10G Ethernet solution consisting of Controllers, PHYs, MACsec Security Modules, and Verification IP. The IP is proven in a wide range of applications including automotive, networking, HPC and consumer.

Enhancing Ethernet Security with MACsec

Ethernet was originally designed for high-speed data transfer and interoperability between devices. However, traditional Ethernet does not provide built-in mechanisms for securing data traffic, such as encryption or authenticity protection. This is where MACsec comes into the picture.

What Makes Ethernet IP Truly Automotive-Grade

This blog examines what separates truly automotive-grade Ethernet IP from generic implementations across functional safety, time-sensitive networking, security, observability, lifecycle management, and the integration disciplines that only become visible once a program is deep into development.

Three Ethernet Design Challenges in Industrial Automation

As factories, process plants, and robotics platforms become increasingly intelligent and interconnected, the demand for stable, low-latency data links has pushed Ethernet deeper into embedded systems. However, since designing Ethernet connectivity into industrial chips comes with its technical and logistical hurdles, engineers may face challenges when implementing Ethernet in industrial designs.
