Sunrise Micro Devices' Radio Technology Enables Internet Capable Bluetooth Smart IoT Devices
Sunrise Micro Devices will demonstrate its silicon-proven CORDIO® Bluetooth radio core at the Embedded World event embedded world 2015
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. -- February 17, 2015 -- Wireless intellectual property (IP) company Sunrise Micro Devices Inc., announces Bluetooth Smart radio cores that will have higher speed, improved privacy and bring much needed internet connectivity to Bluetooth Smart IoT devices. This will be the second release of its CORDIO BT4 radio product and compliant with the 4.2 version of the Bluetooth Core Specification. The Bluetooth 4.1 compliant release of the BT4 radio core is silicon-proven and will be demonstrated at the Embedded World event in Nuremburg, Germany later this month.
“We are members of the Bluetooth SIG’s Core Specification Working Group and are happy to have played a role in developing the Bluetooth 4.2 specification,” said Dr. Fred Martin, president and CEO of Sunrise Micro Devices. “Standards need to adapt quickly to application and market changes; we believe addressing security issues and adding 6LoWPAN support are key enhancements and are excited to bring these to our customers through our BT4 product offering.” This new release will be Bluetooth 4.2 qualified and will include updates such as extended packet support and enhanced security features.
Sunrise Micro Devices (SMD) will participate in two demonstrations at the Embedded World 2015 event in the ARM booth located at Stand 5-338, showcasing its CORDIO Bluetooth Smart product and the applications it can enable. The CORDIO BT4 radio core gives customers flexibility to choose the embedded processor, memory configuration, host software stack, application specific sensors, and application profiles enabling them to cater their System-on-Chip (SoC) products to specific markets. These platforms may be extremely small and can run off 1V button cell batteries for over a year.
“Ubiquitous, ultra-low-power radio connectivity is a major enabler of IoT,” said Charlene Marini, vice president, embedded marketing, ARM. “Sunrise’s beacon and sensor applications are great examples of the innovation that ARM’s ecosystem is delivering to enable energy-efficient, connected devices.”
